Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated
Well, I thought it was a variation on 'I aen't ded'.

I'm not dead, nor have I abandoned lj; I've just been hideously busy. I know that is a lame excuse and that plenty of people manage to work hideous busyness and lj into the same life schedule, but I didn't want to sporadically become involved in things I couldn't follow through on. The last entry was bad enough; I never got around to replying to any comments. Chances are I won't this time either. Thing is, it's my twenty-first birthday today and I just wanted to mark the date in what is essentially my diary. I don't feel mentally prepared to be twenty-one, and have a nasty feel this means my character is fixed for good without my consent or approval, but there it is. At least I'm getting the best present I could ask for -- laser eye surgery.

I'll be back on about May 21, so until then, adieu. I miss lj, but not as much as I fear failing exams, alas ... ♥

Thanks and thanks. My exams are next week, so naturally I'm online now. :D

Yup, I think I'd trade in a number of discomforts to lose the specs permanently ...

Thank you -- and WOULD I! I know this is ... three weeks later ... but maybe ideas have had time to ferment in your wonderful little brain? [is ever-hopeful]

Happy birthday, and good luck with the exams and with the surgery!

Nah. Trust me - I'm 13 years past my own 21st b-day, I should know ;)

I trust you, dorlink. Gosh, I do need a lot of luck these days don't I? Phew! Still, three weeks from now I'll have drained the account. :D

Happy birthday and a merry laser surgery to you!

Trust me when I say that if you've got any survival instincts and intelligence you'll continue to evolve after 21. I still have some of (okay a lot of) the bad habits I did at 21, but I've also learned a ton and life seems to run much smoother now. Life is much less fraught with angst at this point.

I don't know how merry the surgery will be (the assessment was pretty gross) but the results certainly should be!

Mmm, I have even noticed that lately. Mind you that is with the help of a miniscule helping of CBT. I shall keep you posted!

Happy day to you!

And while I won't reach 21 for another 2 weeks, one would hope life continues after that, otherwise what d'you do with the other 60/70-odd years you've got left? :P

Speaking as the voice of experience, life seems to continue in pretty much the same mode as before, sans birthday ice cream. Happy birthday to you too!

The boys say, "Happy Birthday!"

I hope you love your lasek surgery as much as I have loved mine! It's one of the coolest things I've ever done. Because my contacts were out of presecription, it took about a month or so for both my eyes to completely work together (plus I was very very nearsighted) but here it is almost 3 months later and I have never had such great vision. It's awesome!
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on May 3rd, 2007 02:32 pm (UTC)
I tell 'em thanks. :D

Actually I'm having LASIK, which is a bit newer or something? My corneas are quite thin and your one didn't want to take the risk with LASEK. I don't know. I don't care, either, LASIK apparently takes about two days to heal and you might get your sight in 12 hours. (I'm not banking on that, as my prescription is vile, but the thought of it. EEE.) I can't wait to join you there. ♥

Thanks, belatedly.

Yeah, lots of people said that! Most of them don't wear glasses, though. I'd go through significantly more pain and distress than I'll have to with laser to get rid of mine. I hates 'em, precious.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Yey, 21st.

I hope your surgery goes without problems, and remember to always put in your eye drops.

Eww, 21st, more like. :D Still, I can now drink in America, whee.

I will do! I intend to be the most faithfully compliant patient in the history of laser.

I've wanted it since I was fourteen. It's almost hard to believe I'm actually getting it ...!
JRevalangui on May 3rd, 2007 03:06 pm (UTC)
Tsk, I keep hopping for it but apparently my vision needs to be estable first or something like that (not to get into how insanely expensive it is).

You should tell us how it works out for you! :D

Happy birthday! *hugs* Y'know, I somehow thought you were older than me. I'm 24 next month, though.
Really, being 21 isn't any different from being any other age, and mentally, we all still keep growing and changing!
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on May 3rd, 2007 02:37 pm (UTC)
If it's any consolation I was born with a mental age of forty. So now I'm approximately sixty-seven and go around muttering about the Youth of Today.

I guess your wedding is soon (or even over!) by now? Good wishes for that -- according to the Gilmore Girls you can only congratulate the groom, what.

I hear you - I'm just the same! I sit on the train and scowl at the 'bloody loud kids'. XD

It's tomorrow! We're heading off in half an hour, because we're spending the night before out in the country in a nice B&B. :)

So jealous about the surgery. From what I've been told it is a bit scary, until the drugs kick in and then just surreal. But, oh, the jealousy.....

Many happy returns (which is such a strange phrase....enjoy returning the inappropriate presents??). Twenty-one is not the be-all end-all of anything. Living in the United States, with its pesky alcohol laws, I found it to be a bit of a let-down, as I had been drinking (at restaurants and wineries) in public for years, but looking back now (with a deep perspective of a year and a half) I feel almost as though I was a completely different person then as now.

It should be the things you *do* rather than the time that has passed that is worthy of notice.
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on May 3rd, 2007 02:40 pm (UTC)
The drugs are odd. I had to get some for the assessment. They totally paralysed my accomodation reflex for hours -- 15 minutes my ass -- so I'd to walk home squinting at the ground like a crazy person. And this was an overcast day in April, which is basically winter here.

I've regarded it as a turning point for years so, one way or another, I am determined to make it one. There's the surgery, and I intend to learn to drive in the summer ... oh, lots of things. As for drinking, I've been legally entitled for four years and have taken it up about seven times. I should have been born in the Bible Belt.

Mwah, thanks doll. Ooh lookit John Paul! Is the sign a happy accident or the result of clever photoshopping? Either way, excellent. Whatever happened with them, pray tell? I've seen bits and pieces of Hollyoaks but they all have to do with some girl who wears scandalous skirts marrying a Romanian.

I'm not sure if I'm officially back, but I will be -- never fear!
