sga is like the cool kid i want to be my BFF but who's actually like: bitch, please
I can has a thought.

Picture: the gateroom

Shep and McKay and Weir and the random hot guy who works the reverse-DHD (question: it’s not a dial-home device when you’re at home, so what is it? The ‘call out for pizza and beer’ device? The ‘we are hardcore explorers so let us through bitches’ device? I’m sure this has been mentioned on the show and I’m just stupid. Wouldn’t be a new thing) are testing out a new and unknown planet. They send the MALP through first because they are Cautious Scientists.

So … this is where they figure out if the gate is in space or not, right?

HOT GUY: Here comes the visual feed.
WEIR: You bet it does, tiger. Rawr.
HOT GUY: This was so not in my mission brief.
SHEP: Look at the MALP! It’s flying!
MCKAY: It’s falling.
SHEP: You really are a glass half-empty person, aren’t you.
WEIR: We lost so many good MALPs that way, I recall.

I note they never followed through on the wormhole being cold. I guess the budget for all those ice crystals (or ICE CHIPS, for Americans – you have such awesome words) just ratcheted up into the millions.

Picture: random planet from SG-1 (see also: forest in Canada)

NATIVES DRESSED IN CURTAIN MATERIAL: All hail the gods from the Ring of the Ancestors!
O’NEILL: Please no hail, we’re cold enough already.

Now I'm going to be up all night debating whether or not SGA really is > than SG1. I hate such questions.

imo it's no contest. SGA is blue and sparkly, SG-1 is hopelessly nineties. But I reckon it's a gut feeling thang - if they're equal in your eyes then that's good! I know I'll have to trek through all ten seasons of SG-1 just to find out about things like the Asgard and the Company (or is that the Prison Break one, idk). Mind you ... Daniel Jackson ... hyum ...

Random Hot Guy = Chuck, by general fandom consensus. SGA > SG1 fandomwise, imo, since I don't watch much, b'cos Mckay/Sheppard is the Little Black Dress pairing ~ seriosly, have you read some of the AUs? Wacky-er than Radek on a bad hair day.

*is lurker lurking for your post-DH epic via issen4 initially, continues lurking for lulz such as this*

CHUCK. That's such an awesome American name. And awesome is an American word too. GOD I LOVE AMERICA.

I've read lots of things in that pairing - no AUs as yet, actually, because the inventiveness with them just in Atlantis is astounding.

Not many people around here are SGA-savvy, so you're very welcome!

Lol, I think ~ okay, no, I really have no clue why he's 'Chuck'. It just seems to happen, spontaneously ~

A brilliant new AU (I've only kept track recently, lost a whole load of older ones) is fiercelydreamed's Unidentified. That one's an amnesia Earth-based AU, but there're also orchestral AUs, Mensa-verse AUs, and a ridiculous number of Romance Novel AUs.

One to read if you have, oh, a week or so spare: sheafrotherdon's A Farm in Iowa-verse. It is huge, but also, absolutely fabulous ^.^

crack_van and 37flavors both keep up a steady stream of SGA-recs, if you're still exploring~

(Yeah, I'm a panfandom-whore ~ 50 at the latest count I suck at commenting, but I loved your SGA-ficlet! And the new Sky High one! And, it's a little depressing to be finding new authors in all this exodus mess, but. I've de.licio.us-tagged you instead of friended incase that goes belly-up)

He kind of looks like a Chuck. Or at least a chipmunk. Which is close, phonetically.

Oowa, more recs! I've seen A Farm in Iowa - this is a reminder for me to actually go read it, now. :D

That's a good idea. I'm thinking the best idea would be to have my own fic website (not that I know anything about website building ... so that would be a long term plan).

Chuck is named Chuck because the actor is named Chuck and during a convention when someone asked what the character's name is, someone just said "Chuck" and it stuck. It became canon in the third season, I believe. At least I seem to remember Elizabeth saying "Chuck" and me shooting up out of my chair and going "CHUCK!" and completely baffling my brother, who is my TV buddy.

And your entire post is hilarious. It's made of win.

I already think of him as Chuck - so many fics with him as Chuck did that. And it's amazing how many fics require him to play a bit part.

Thankee! :D
