not till the sun excludes you
I don't see myself finishing another book before 2009 (ooh-er), so I thought I might as well do my round-up now as not.

Since June I've been keeping track, and writing 'reviews' - please note the ironic inverted commas - of every book I've read. The total came to thirty-five. In addition, I read about ten more: Georgette Heyer, Maeve Binchy and Meg Cabots mainly, to keep me sane. Not to mention the five textbooks I was obliged to read since September. Really not mentioning, because not even if every other book in the world took a wasting sickness and died could medical textbooks count as literature.

If I assume I read about the same in the first six months of 2008, that comes to about 100 books this year. I don't know if this is a lot or not. It probably doesn't count unless you liked them, anyway.

In summary:

Writers I liked in Book Glomp 2008:
Chuck Palahnuik, JD Salinger (♥), Jerome K Jerome, Truman Capote, Virginia Woolf (sorta), Evelyn Waugh, Graham Greene, Connie Willis, Terry Pratchett, Joe Abercrombie

Writers I was meh about in Book Glomp 2008:
George MacDonald Fraser, Cassandra Clare, Winifred Watson, Khaled Hosseini, Robert E Pirsig, Francoise Sagan, EM Forster, Douglas Coupland, Gaynor Arnold, MT Anderson

Writers I hated in Book Glomp 2008:
Ian McEwan, Rudyard Kipling, George Eliot, Peter Carey, Elizabeth Wurtzel, Jeanette Winterson, Sherri S Tepper, Henrik Ibsen

Writers I loathed, detested and despised so much they nearly made me physically sick in Book Glomp 2008:
GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ, JACK KEROUAC

See you in 2009 for the next one hundred!

Wow, hey that's awesome.

Since finding fanfic my actual book reading has gone way way down. :(

*thoughtful* I read an awful lot of fanfic too - like, a story a day at least, if there's that much available. I suppose it's that even the longest fanfic doesn't take more than an hour or two to read? I have more time than that! :D

Yeah, bandom is still a pretty small fandom, so there isn't that much, but I just love re-reading fic too. :)

And then there's the internet in general, so addictive! ;D

But getting bigger all the time! (And a good thing too ... me no like the cliquey element. I want my own clique.)

Do you ever get that thing, just before you're about to switch off for the night and all your emails are answered and F5ing your flist shows no change ... and you're really tired and should sleep ... BUT BEFORE YOU GO YOU REALLY HAVE TO CHECK FOR NEW LOLCATS ON ICANHAZCHEEZBURGER? Or similar?

Most definitely a good thing. :D (Hee, I want a clique too!)

Ahaha! Yes. ;D

GG Marquez is good BUT ONLY IN SOME RARE BOOKS! The rest are so much AWFUL PANTS. Same with Jack Kerouac.

Also, Peter Carey only wrote one good book - The Tax Inspector. Everything else is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

TEPPER IS SO BAD SOOOO BORING SO PAINFUL

But I don't think I can stomach him long enough to find out! Either of them!

Yes, I kind of gathered that from Oscar and Lucinda. >.>

Sigh. Why won't more people write things I enjoy?

Brilliantly written...Only the reader knows the matter of fact then?
What Kerouac is all about is imagery. A question however is if he didn't know how to explain thought.

Re: Brilliantly written...Only the reader knows the matter of fact then?
The imagery of what, precisely? Useless egotistical misogynistic stoners and how they scab off the system? That's one I'd wanna put on my wall.

I'd say that the reason he can't explain thought is because he didn't have any, but that's just me.
