We're going to the happy place, right?

I've been in a really bad mood all day, and it's not even like the communists have invaded.

*gasp* What do you mean, you don't care? *blows raspberry*

Heh. What do you do when people don't like something you've written? The epilogue to A City got much hate. I feel like taking it down. And, Draco-inspiration notwithstanding (cynicalpirate, you know who you are), I don't think I'll be able to write for ages (ever again?), not unless The Serious Funny invades my life once more. Nothing is coming out the way I want it to, ie, amusing. See all the above for evidence of that!

Not to mention RL is also getting me down, and the root and cause of it is, what else?, boys. In particular, I'm getting sick of being told in an annoyingly superior tone of voice, 'Just wait till you fall in love...'. People seem to wish it on me like they'd wish an STD on someone else. All because I mentioned that I think all boys are one-track-minded scum (didn't listen to the addendum that I apply that to all of humanity), the only point of having a relationship is for sex, and that I think pretty boys in eyeliner are hot. (Man, was that last a tactical mistake.)

Heh. Me, who at the age of eighteen and three-quarters has proposed twice (three times, if you count The Gill - I don't, it was only in my head). Oh, I want to scream.

ETA: WELL. It turns out that Zebulon/Joanna Lumley=OTP. Absolutely Fabulous may have saved my life.

Argh! Don't say things like that! You've just named your muse, you can't stop writing; and if you take down the epilogue I'll hop on a plane to come knock some sense into you. Besides, you're amusing without trying; sarcasm is an art.

And, ah, the 'just wait...' speech. Isn't it ironic that most people who spout that shite are overly-injected and tucked divorcees who alternate between picking up poolboys and bitching about alimony? Relax: Love is and STD. Humanity is scum. Particularly humainty in possession of a Y-chromosome. And pretty boys in eyeline are chocolate-dipped perfection. Heh, me; who was pinned down, married off and kissed at the tender age of six. Fortunately it wasn't legally binding. I think I can hear your scream across the Atlantic.

Barry's a bastard, okay? Go figure, he is male after all. I'm nearly crying that you think I'm amusing. Oof, I'm bad company tonight!

Actually, it's more my few years older for some reason, in long term relationship friends. (Don't actually know anyone injected and/or divorced, although these pool boys sound fun.) Yes. Eyeliner on boys RULES. Why cannot people understand this?!

It was a play marriage, right? Tell me it was a play marriage...

i love the song you're listening to.. its a good song to listen to while feeling crappy.

As far as what to do when people don't like what you're written, just ignore them. Only take it down if you do not like it. Where is the fic people didn't like? I bet I would like it :p
Anyway, I'm all for writing for myself (selfish bitch, aren't I?) and if other people enjoy what I like then that gives me warm fuzzy feelings and I enjoy it, but if no one reviews or reviews poorly try not to let it get ya down. Maybe they just don't have good taste ;)

Yay for rather grungey Irish singers!

It's just that they seem to have been let down more than anything, because they liked the rest of the story, but they thought the epilogue sucked. And I do so hate to let people down, you know? *sighs* But you are right! I can only write what I can write, no more and no less. Thank you.xD

Now, now, don't feel down. Just last night somebody on my flist made a post solely to say, you should go read this fic (Snakes and Ladders?) by scoradh! And somebody else commented to say, yes you should, because it is lovely.

So there.

Not that I have read any of your fic, but yeah.

Someone said it was lovely? Okay, I seriously need to go cry now and get this shit out of my system.

What do you do when people don't like something you've written?

You buy them a nice new straitjacket. Honey, you are an AMAZING writer. You do The Serious Funny (oxymoron intentional?) with such ease that I am consistently astounded by it. And if you really think you didn't write up to your usual standards, it's only a bad patch, trust me. You will continue to make me chortle and guffaw throughout our entire married life.

Who gave you the hate? May I make their life a living hell, please?

Real life, schmeal life. You rock.

And so do pretty boys (Barry! Barry!) in eyeliner.

I am tearing here. I need to take the Loser's Draught o'Death, or something. But thank you, honey. Your engagement ring was worth every penny of my mother's dial-up time.

It wasn't hate, actually. It was disappointment that the epilogue didn't live up to/fit in with the rest. I dunno. I feel like I let them down. (Them being all ten that followed it, but still.) I'm so selfish, taking up people's time with pointless whining. And I'll be fine tomorrow, too! (Most likely.)

Anyway yes, eyeliner. I should SO make Barry wear it. Blue hair for Harry, too, p'raps? xDDDD

My darling, my precious, my love! When I first read your post, I was EXTREMELY dismayed. (Never write again? Where will I get my fun? People hated the epilogue? How could I have lead you so astray?) In a swirl of disappointment and irritation with mean reviewers, I stormed off to Schnoogle to go Not-Bob on their asses (or something). Then I discovered something that you, in your negative-review-receiving hurt, must have overlooked. Only three of the seven reviews were negative, and even these three were VERY complimentary of all eleven previous chapters. They didn't like the ending, not because it was poor writing (which it wasn't), but because it wasn't how they personally wanted it to go. And how many letters do you think JKR got after the fifth book came out telling her that her ending was awful, terrible, totally off, ridiculous, and must be changed immediately, if not sooner? All of these reviewers had definite ideas of how they wanted the story to end, and were upset when it didn't go where they had hoped. That is the sign of a great story. If people care that much about your 'verse and characters, you've done a good job. For one reason or another, they didn't like your ending. At least four other reviewers did (phrases like "I want to cry... that was really beautiful!" and "you wrote such a perfect ending" and "one of my favorite fics" caught my eye). I do. You do, I believe. If you don't then, and only then, should you change it. But not for a few people who felt like ghost Sirius or Harry's dead parents would be a better tie-up for A City. There will always be people who don't like certain decisions you make in your writing (and in life). It doesn't make you a bad writer (and notice that none of the critical reviews implied that you are). You are a good writer, and lots of people (including me) love your work. I know it hurts to get negative reviews, but read and re-read the good ones until your ego is sufficiently built up, go over the bad ones, take anything useful they have to offer, and discard anything else.

Along the lines of RL... Well, I'll say much the same thing. There will always be people who don't like the decisions you make, or think that they could make better ones. Take the good, discard the bad, always. E-mail me if you ever need to talk. Much love, Beaver. Much love.

I love you so, so much right now. And ever.

I swear to god, I wish it was my period, because I DO NOT cry otherwise. But I am, right now, crying, can you IMAGINE? Me. Because of what you said. You took the time, and you were all logical and it WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. To find someone who believes in me that much...jesus god almighty. What did I do to deserve such luck, I love you. I love you. I love you.

I feel like a loser and a wimp. But at the same time, people care about me, and they've never even met me.

Maybe there is a god.
