Sometimes it's hard to be a human

You know what the great thing about having an lj is? It is as follows: you can post H/D fic that no one is going to read, because everyone on your flist is an ardent R/S shipper, and the only persongabbysun) who would actually tolerate it has already read it! This calls for a celebration...but it's almost half-past midnight and all I have is a packet of Snacks, which I am so not going to eat because, ew, crisps.

Title: Wizards Abroad

Rating: PG-13

Pairing: Harry/Draco (backstory: Ron/Hermione)

Summary: In which Arthur Weasley comes into contact with far more Muggles than is healthy, Harry hosts Ron's stag party with increasing mother-hen tendencies, and two unexpected guests turn up in Ibiza. Warning: drunkenness, slash and pink hoop earrings are all made mention of within.

In other news, I saw The Village tonight...and I'm going to write more H/D until the wee hours (hopefully) for the BB. I just wish Barry would stop releasing plotbunnies about the goddamn Hufflepuffs, though, seriously.

It is indeed! (I love that you think that was the most important part...xD)

Except beta'ed, now. w00t.

Wination?
gabbysun on February 4th, 2005 05:25 pm (UTC)
It is fantastically squicky! :D

:D!? I'm a-gonna go read it again then; it's just not the same once it's been beta-ed.

No no no, PWNation. Like OWNED. Except with a "p", which is cooler somehow.

aha! But you forget that I am back, and avidly slurping up any H/D fic that comes my way, in addition to all the lovely R/S.

Anyway, I really should ask how you are, etc. Have you suffered from any major, debilitating illnesses, eg. cholera, loss of limbs, bubonic plague? Are we, in fact, in 18th century England? Do I need some more coffee at this time in the bloody morning?

*scuttles off for fic and caffeine*

See, I didn't realise so many people shipped H/D. This is where the terminal stupidity comes into play.

Perhaps you do need coffee. I need Dr Pepper. If I had the plague, no one told me, anyway. Life is filling with amusing boredom, as ever!
bat crimeiceetoile on February 6th, 2005 12:32 am (UTC)
dude. You didn't realise. How is that even possible?

mmm, Dr. Pepper. Which probably has more caffeine in it than coffee, actually. Although, is it just me, or is there less Dr. Pepper in the shops these days? How odd. Also, I do not think that you have the plague. It would be too bizarre.

Aw! My very first ship was Draco/Hermione. I find him an interesting character to ship, I guess. (Model of every boy I've ever had a crush on, sadly.) I'm glad you liked it - I love making people smile!

Please tell Gabby her icons are distracting.
I do believe that Wizards Abroad was the first of your fics I ever read. And then I think my reaction to it was something like this:

"Oh my gentle Jesus I am so not worthy how can someone capable of such genius actually like my fics she must be either crazy or cruel cruel cruel"

And there was no punctuation.

I still love it.

And HOORAY! for the BB and new Barry-goodness. Cannot wait. I keep checking the comm every five minutes, even though I know it isn't ready yet. *weeps*

I can't, I am also far too distracted
I remember that. I meant to say 'and cynicalpirate up there, but fact is, Gabby was cross that I didn't tell her I'd updated A City (I just didn't want to impose! I freak about that!) and this was the only alternative to the cherries and ambrosia that I cannot hand out to everyone over the phone line.

Like I said...me too. Mutual love rocks. Barry is playing bass guitar. Badly. xD

I was led to your LJ, because coralia13 kept mentioning you. I got to talking to her on fernwithy's LJ. Isn't that backwards?

I'd like to start out by saying that I liked this. It was an entirely enjoyable read. You have an amazingly humorous authorial voice. It had me laughing in a lot of spots--riotously, no less. Very cute. The H/D interaction was also very nice.

Concrit:
Now, I'm must admit to being something of a mild canon nazi and a mild grammar nazi. There were some OOC moments (um, Mr. Weasley) and some things that stretched a bit thin or deserved a little better explanation. Seamus was treated a little harshly, but I wibble on that since he was drunk most of the time. I think you have a lot of great potential and if you ever want a beta (a very critical and honest beta, no less), let me know, I'd be happy to do it.

H/D is sometimes very hard to capture in an one-shot humorous fic, because there's so much history to deal with. I have trouble with it myself at times. I think a little more history sifting between them might have in order.

Yes, I'm both an ardent Harry/Draco shipper and a Sirius/Remus shipper. I believe "theirloveissocanon" works for both couples, actually. We all know Draco gave Harry that Singing Valentine in CoS. ^_~ *makes mental note to discuss canon points that support this theory in LJ soon*

Overall, I found the fic to be highly enjoyable and amusing. I really did like it. I think your authorial voice is amazingly snarky and captures people right away. I laughed many times while reading. Consider my beta offer, seriously. I don't volunteer to just anyone.

Cheers, J. Marie.

*bows reverently to your icon*

Thank you so much for this! (coralia13 pimping, indeed. I have so converted her!) I love getting 'proper' reviews, and I actually agree with all your points. Everyone in this is more than a little OOC, but in my defence it was one of my earlier stories, and in the past I was more concerned with getting the laughs in as opposed to making sure I didn't overstep the canon boundaries...were I writing it again now, I most certainly would not have written Seamus like that. There again, it was a borderline parody, so...

I certainly wouldn't mind another beta, unless you think it is greedy of me to have more than one! I mainly write R/S (which I find doesn't work so well for me...but I do it anyway, pshaw) and H/D, but I've been known to dabble in het. Not seriously, though. Shall we friend, do you think? (...To be honest, I'm sneakily hoping you may be moved to read another story by me. I'm a review whore. It's a fault. xD)
