The Billy Goat Gruff was a WOMAN

It was one of those archetypal Irish days, when it's not really cold but still not anywhere approaching warm, even from a long distance away, and where the rain is only two degrees off being mist. It was what the olds tend to call a 'dirty' day, which, if combined with 'soggy', sums it up pretty well. I know for a fact my O'Neills were drenched to the knee and incrusted with mud to the ankle - and this was just from walking the city streets, mark you. None of this was greatly helped by the fact that I was wearing what I call my Converse-imitation Nikes, which are basically cloth on a rubber base. I felt a very strong empathy with Vimes, because I'm pretty sure I could feel the ground through them. No cobbles, though, because they ripped them up, didn't they? And stuck in uneven, differently patterned paving slabs instead. Because that's a whole new universe more aesthetically pleasing, o'course. *rolls eyes* City fathers, you rock. And now I really get why you're called 'fathers'...

I have to say, I think that's a point where Pterry let his romantic artistic license go to town a bit. No one who's walked around a wet city in biodegradable shoes would ever want to do it twice. I'm wearing my Sketchers tomorrow, anyway.

I do attempt to prevent myself from rambling about my fics in non-fic entries (because of the trouble I'd have, eg, stopping), but this is getting ridiculous. I submitted Sob Story to FA nine days ago. They have one day of grace before they exceed their own predicted upload time. It's never taken this long before. I only mention it in the hope that it'll act as some kind of voodoo on the uploading powers that be. I'm sick of waiting! You have an Aries on your bleedin' tail, dude!

Wow - I just had the weirdest experience... I was reading your post in my friends page, and it was about velour track pants (horrible, by the way, I agree), and then I clicked 'Leave a comment' and come to your page, and now it is about Sob Story... Am I magical?

Anyway, weather sounds terrible, books sound GREAT, good luck with Sob Story (loved it), and velour sucks!

Yes, at first it was all about 'SPREAD THE VELOUR HATE!' and then I remembered about the voodoo, and I thought if I put it all in one post people would die of starvation and dehydration and whatnot before the end.

It does suck, velour, though, MADLY.

Read Maya's comment - I thought it would be far worse, dear!

Hardly. Effeminate, perhaps.
I was wearing what I call my Converse-imitation Nikes, which are basically cloth on a rubber base.

It must be a spectacular imitation, because that is exactly what Converse are. And they offer no protection against Mother Nature WHATSOEVER.

Wow, you have city fathers. Ireland is so cool. (If England has city fathers too, just shoot me. I am too ignorant to live.)

Sympathies about the fic, mate. But they'll probably upload in a jiffy - an Aries on your tail is a potentially painful thing.

The beard has STRINGS
I mean, that they look a bit like them, but without the coolness quotient. But hey, they were thirty quid and I didn't know what Converses WERE when I bought them, so...

I don't know if Cork does have them or not, there's just an ad on the radjo about the City of Culchies thing and it goes: 'What the city fathers gave us to celebrate the City of Culture 2005...roadworks!'

*pouts* Not yet. The potcheen must not have got through the mail, DANGit.

All my knowledge of Schrodinger's cat is based on DEATH's account in The Last Hero, mark you. Have you read that? The illustrations are gorgeous!

Huh. Not so much. TEN DAYS AND IT IS STILL LOST IN THE DEPTHS OF UPDATING HYPERSPACE.

That's it, no one will ever see it more.

Okay, so cars have given way to cats. Nice! As long as nothing makes the tyres squeal.

About Sob Story: I've had FA upload stories of mine in about 12 hours, usually when I'm posting a lot to get rid of a backlog and would prefer them to be a bit slower. But Blink And You Miss It took them 8 days, I think: I actually posted something else before they uploaded it, because I was so fed up with waiting.

Oh, dear, I do so love talking shop! Hope Sob Story is now uploaded.

Schroedinger's cat, now. *winks*

OHMYGILL it is wrecking my head big-time! Ten days are gone now. I wouldn't mind only for once, I thought I'd actually managed to write a half-decent summary. *broods* I've gone and uploaded something else, yeah! It's really pissing me off. Did I mention that already? I am not patient!
Minnowminnow_53 on March 15th, 2005 01:21 pm (UTC)
No, I don't understand physics! Don't mention the S-word cat! A simple, domestic moggie is all I can take: MORE than I can take.

Points to remember:

1)You are a brilliant writer.
2)Your summaries surely reflect that brilliance. 3)FA can screw up.
4)If a new post doesn't hurry them up, you're going to have to e-mail them. I hope that won't happen.
5) You have been patient. An Aries so patient deserves a gold, silver and bronze medal, rolled into one, or at least the pretty version.
6) It's not your first post at FA. They owe you. We keep FA going, don't forget.

Hope it'll be sorted out! Thinking of you.

^_^xx

Fanfic? What! Where? Fanfic! Now I'm all cheered up again.

I think Pterry just wanted the kind of romantic notion of Vimes being like a part of the city, to the extent that he could read it through his feet. It's a good idea, I suppose, but you're not supposed to think about it beyond the theory. Wet Converse boots are the worst, particularly when you're wearing hightops and the water actually creeps up the material and spreads over the whole boot and gets in the toes and squelches. I'm often in this position. Worst is when they're white, tho, you can NEVER EVER EVER even expect to get the stains out, you have to paint them. Which can be fun.

Soon, soon, soon, I keep telling myself!

And hello! I was wondering if your firewalls had been rebuilt or something. Good to see you back!

I really want some real Converses myself, in spite of all above drawbacks. However, I have only seen them sold in a shop which ALSO sells erotic teddybear keychains and I refuse on principle to buy footwear from such an outlet...
