One cow for you, one cow for you ...

Just to warn everyone: Tuesday, if I get a chance to update, is going to be a veeeery interesting day.

... See, I went to pay my bone fee yesterday and got to meet my body (well, it was lying in a body bag on the table beside the pay-desk, but that constitutes an introduction, don't you feel?) and found out that Tuesday is my first dissection day. Ta-daa!

I don't really understand squeamishness (although ask me again in a few days, I might have revised that) but I'll lj-cut all of it in any case.

That was just my big news, yanno. I've decided to call it (the body) Max -- gender neutral, see -- although considering it's four to a body, we might have to take a vote. We will have him/her for the rest of the year, so the rumour goes. Once you get to the feet the rest of it's rotted, etc etc.

Also, those in the medical profession and medical study, er, don't have senses of humour as far as I can see. They all just find it terribly "interesting" and "fascinating", which doesn't leave a lot of room for snark. Me? I think it's going to be difficult, boring and disgusting, but then I'm a cynical old hag. But I can laugh at myself! One of the many, many requirements, it turns out.

I saw the Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice. For hardcore fans of the 1995 version: Go see this one. They are equally good. The actors can't act as well -- most notably Mr and Mrs Bennet and dear Keira, natch -- but they are prettier, and the whole set-up is well paced, laugh-out-loud-funny and ultimately re-watchable. There are some very sweet touches with Jane/Bingley and Keira (... I mean Lizzie)/Darcy. Darcy does come across as shy, not proud, but it's very squeeful. Not enough Wickham, but the fact that he looked like "Legolas in the army" made me forgive him that. Watch out for Mr Collins and "intercourse." *snort*

the fact that he looked like "Legolas in the army"

I thought that!

Yes! It disposed me much better towards him; it fell down on not having the big backstory because really, there wasn't much of a reason for her to hate Darcy by the film and that was the crux of it in the book.

I think 1995!Lydia pwned Jena Malone, all the same.

I'm guessing a whole bunch of us will have RL stuff more on LJ- haha.
:D
Is yours rotten? And you didn't name it Darcy?

Bro got an old lady his second year. I think his partner threw up.
:D

I always intended to keep this as a "diary," but then nothing happened for a whole year, really! Now there are many many pretty boys. I foresee much distraction ahead ...

I don't think s/he is yet. We have sprays to stop them going black. I really couldn't call a corpse Darcy, though. He is the ultimate lover. I think it would ruin that. We're all looking at each other now, wondering who will shame themselves and faint. (Ma says she'll KILL me if I do.)

BTW, I know this is a shameless pimp and all, but you deserve to know because you inspired it ... I wrote Draco/Goyle. In beta. But I wrote it. o.O

But really, she's not Elizabeth Bennett. She's Keira Knightley, wandering around a Jane Austen film reading a book upside down. *le shrug*

No senses of humour? That's strange... when I was still at the university, I sometimes accompanied a friend of mine who studied medicine to her dissection classes (it was allowed, and I was interested - yes, I'm a freak ;-) She and her colleagues had named their body "Harvey", and while snipping away at him, they kept telling jokes of such a kind that I half expected Harvey to blush. Great times *g*

Btw, the same friend of mine once told me that she thinks the mouldy old sheets of parchment I usually work with are totally disgusting...

Oh, I meant the tutors. I guess a lot of us will have to develop a humourous skin to survive, but as yet everyone's deadly serious and earnest about it all. (Unlike me.) That sounds a lot like what the older medical students were saying. xD I can't imagine what that'd be like if you took it all to heart.

Yeesh, I don't like dust either!

Eh, I don't like the BJ films. So depressing! Elizabeth was far spunkier than Bridget. I don't know, there was something about the way the men's hair was always a curly flop that was somewhat unattractive. I would have either this Bingley or Darcy any day. All right, they're not terribly good actors, but they are VERY pretty. *is shallow*

LOVE the icon. You have such a great selection!

"intercourse" was the best part of that film. *ehm*

I dunno why, but I just couldn't work up any real enthusiasm for it. I knew I was going to be really disappointed if I kept comparing it to the Beeb's versh, so I compared it to Bride And Prejudice instead. And, okay, it was a lot better than that monstrosity. But I still don't really like it. The leads were the biggest let-down for me :\

Mmm. At first I was comparing Mr Bennet to 95 Mr Bennett and going Oh, no. But I was with a friend who said she'd kill me if I started comparing them, so I settled down and tried to imagine I had never seen the first one. And that worked! I could really appreciate all the different touches then. xD

What a wasted opporunity to name your body Stiffy McCorpserson. But I guess they frown on that sort of thing.

That's two good LJ reviews for P&P. I hate you all for living across the pond and getting to see it now! *self-pities*

Can't wait for gross lj-cuts on Tuesday!
And since I feel the grossness is beginning already, maybe you can clarify a few things? First: how come you don't know if it's a guy or a girl? Is it... No, I can't really figure out what you would have to do to a body to hide its gender, that wasn't done before death.
Second, SERIOUSLY A BODY?! ON YOUR SECOND DAY!! Wow, throw that monkey in the water.
So... it lasts a year? And by the end, everything but the feet have rotted? So... You are never going to eat meat again?
Anyway, I am very glad you liked the movie (mostly?), and I can't wait to see it myself! Must make a list of films to see. Not that I ever have any time, this year. I feel freshman year was much lighter.
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on September 27th, 2005 09:48 am (UTC)
Oh, well, we hadn't been told what gender it was! Even after today, I'm still not sure. I'm telling you, people all look the same when they're dead and I so wasn't investigating the wrinkly old genitals before I have to ...

Oh yes, sink or swim. You betcha!

It doesn't look anything like any meat I've ever seen. It's not the right colour, for one thing! Maybe when I start doing real people, with blood, it'll be a different story.

Ha, I'm already turning down invitations every night! But that's because I don't want to go out ... xD I might be going to see it again, though!
