the end of the road (although not the journey)
what. WHAT. That's it?! Will there be a sequel? What will I do now to fill this void in my life?!?!!

A sequel of sorts, in time, is the disclaimer to that. ;D I don't know ... take up knitting?

Fantastic way of integrating Charles Dickens. XD I love the idea of A Christmas Carol being a version of some Wizarding tale. Haha, and Snape is just so awesome, especially when he's exasperated with a Potter. Lovely work with this fic. I hope you do write more soon!

That's the one canon fact about Snape I'm absolutely sure of - I've read too much fanon to ever attempt any other characterisation (or shipping!).

Thank you. ♥

What a beautiful way to end the story. I certainly agree with an above poster that James has been redeemed in this chapter. As Dudley said, while James and Albus have bickered for much of Albus' youth, this ending gives hope that they'll move beyond it and into some sort of comradery.

This chapter also made me want to punch Harry in the head. A lot of folks paint him as more tolerant and wizened by years when it comes to the Potter vs. Malfoy debate, which is fine, but I think that this is a very likely portrayal of his attitudes as well. After all, his rivalry with Draco went well beyond the boundaries of testosterone-infused stupidity towards the end, and memories of that, combined with Harry's short fuse, could very well lead to heavy resentment.

In this story he seems to be okay with the Malfoys in theory so along as he, you know, doesn't have to interact with them in any way. And their fiery mutual hatred seems to have eased, but you can still see sparks of what used to be. Your versions of Draco and Harry are the most unique I've seen in the AS/S fandom, and I love them to bits. (Except for maybe Harry, because he's such an ass; but that's perfectly in character with the way he's written, and I love him for that. Or something. Hm.)

Don't remind me about college! *shudders* I don't have to go back until the beginning of September, but even the thought of it fills me with dread. One more year, just one more year...

I was a H/D shipper and I guess I am still (although I'm weirdly monogamous with my ships; so it's AS/S now and for the foreseeable future, with no room for more). Yet I couldn't shake what JK said about Harry and Draco never ever being friends. I didn't want them to be pally. I can see a tolerance building in this 'verse, secondary to the intimacy between their sons, but never a real friendship.

Ha! Try three more years - and that's before registering, interning, etc ad nauseum...

This arc is, yes. :D

I've loved James' character throughout this whole thing and this chapter only adds to it. He's redeemed, but it's not some cheesy personality switch, he's just realized the possible consequences of his actions and matured a little, as people do.

Wow, you liked him all along? You must be about the only one who did. At last poor James has his own fanclub (membership: one).

Thank you. ♥

k. wow.

adored the way things at the wedding panned out.

hope that harry and ginny and ron and hermione had a serious look at rose and james.

fantastic character projections. with draco et al.

just... just... please say there's going to be more? please?

There will be more, although not in this arc. I'm planning for them to be about 16 or so next time around. And I don't know if I'm as 'good' at writing teens as I am kids ... but I'll try real hard! ♥

Wow, the end already! *applauds* That totally wasn't what I expected (not that I know what it was I expected), but it was awesome, especially that conversation with James and Snape's amusing cameo. For some reason I also really liked that Scorpius smells like vanilla too.

I loved getting to know these characters. Thanks for a great story!

Oh, and I don't like Dickens either.

Mmm, I love vanilla. It's such a yummy smell.

Thank you! And it's always good to have another Dickens hata in my corner. :D

I wailed when I read "last part" so I'm really, really glad we're going to get another arc. You know I said it was so lovely, it could stay gen not slash? Well... that was true as far as I knew. I just didn't think how frustrated I'd get for Albus and Scorpius -- abandoned after only holding hands!

LIked the last chapter, once I forgave it for being last. Really horrified at the circumstances -- I can just imagine the terror of all the adults, and James -- managing to grow up a tiny inch. There's hope yet. I look forward to seeing what he'll turn into. And Draco telling Hermione a hint, WITHOUT revealing Scorpius' secret again -- delicious. Also his wife getting pissed at him and making him back off from Harry... great!

I don't read Harry as a total jerk. I read him as a loving parent who just doesn't understand how his kid likes a Malfoy, unless Malfoy is a bad influence suborning his kid. Draco is still an irritating git, even though he has the good taste to appreciate Albus, so Harry has no sense of proportion when Albus won't tell him something. Alas, I suspect that he and Albus will not be closer than they are till Albus grows up -- if then.

I look forward to the sequel. Thank you for the story!

But you surely didn't want full on 11-year-old sex? That'd be gross. And criminal. Wait till I age them up a few more years, and they can start experimenting (unless they're in America, in which case NO).

Well, me too! It totally wasn't my intention to turn Harry into a git. If I'd written Scorpius in Rose's role no one would be in the slightest bothered by Harry's attitude - but even though that's not the case, it's how Harry views the situation.

Yeah, he and Albus are not going to see eye-to-eye for a looong time.

Thank you! ♥

Oh, man, I am so glad I scrolled down to see that this isn't the end of them, else I'd be pleading for a sequel just like everyone else, and that'd be annoying after a while, wouldn't it? That has been amazing, amazing stuff, and I love it to pieces, but you already know that, right?
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on August 24th, 2007 07:55 pm (UTC)
It is only annoying with one-shots, it seems! Like, the story's OVER, and you get comments saying 'SEQUL PLZ' like the story wasn't enough. But I always planned to write some actual slash into this, and I still want to, and this 'verse is handily in existence, so...

Anyway; thank you! ♥

ohh cute! This had better not be the last we see of you, you're far too awesome a writer. <3 I loved this. I loved this sooo much.

Lily was the cutest ever in this! I hope we see more of her in the next one? (I hope there is a next one? (please please please let there be a next one? (I really love nested parentheses!)))

also you really rule at endings, and plot, and uh life.

Wow. I can't say I really hoped it would end that way, because I don't think I ever could have imagined that. It was much more wonderful than any speculations I had.

I was so worried Albus was really dying, and then I thought maybe it was really far in the future, like when he was 118, and he was viewing events that changed his life (or something). And then it wasn't, but it he didn't die so it all turned out okay. I was very relieved.

Will there be a sequel?
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on August 26th, 2007 06:58 pm (UTC)
Why, thank you!

Him dying was kind of a last-minute plot device ... but if he was 118, I'd have definitely have included some smexing flashbacks. :D

Oh, yes.

I'm going to miss checking in with these children every week! I understand there will be more - eventually - but for what it's worth, this will stand alone as a terrific story without the more we're all clamoring for.

I do so hope it isn't a very long time until we see them again, but God knows, the story is worth any wait. You may not have meant to spend so much time on first year, but it paid off in spades. These characters are so well defined, so embodied. I care desperately about these children, the Malfoys and the Potters. Oh hell, add the Dursleys to that.

It was a real treat to spend a brief scene with Headmaster Snape as well.

Thank you so much for gift of this story.

every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on August 26th, 2007 07:01 pm (UTC)
That's very good to hear - just in case, I'd hate to think this seemed unfinished.

Yeah, I guess a few people feel that way too, if the vehement hatred of James and Rose is anything to go by! It's certainly flattering, if slightly bewildering. If I'd set out to create something popular it sure wouldn't have succeeded this well.

Thank you for your lovely comments! ♥
