full of chocolately goodness
bandombigbang! I has it! I bugged jocondite about sign-ups as early as the New Year, so I'm totally down with the ... homies, possibly, on this one. ALSO. I participated in the original Big Bang, in HP. All three of them. SO THERE. *buffs nails* They were 50,000 words, too. I certainly wouldn't mind if people were forced to write 50,000 words of Panic fic each. I could read that all day. But enough of my foibles. Let's rejoice!

Okay, question time. I would like to get a graphics tablet, for the purposes of reclaiming my drawing mojo. (I had one of those too, but med school ate it.) The main features I'd like are the option of ... uh ... 'putting paper underneath it so you can trace hand drawings' is the way my brain phrased that. And also, pens. I don't understand the pen thing, but it would be fun to have different textures to play with.

I'm caught between
a) the Wacos Intuous 3 and
b) the Bamboo Fun.

The sites don't tell me if there's a function for, uh, putting paper underneath it, so if anyone owns these/has alternatives, I'd love to hear about it!

my daughter has a bamboo thinger. it's black, but otherwise looks the same as that. from what i can see there is no 'put paper underneath' thinger.

Damn! I read some write-up of tablets where it was mentioned that some of them have this function. And I would definitely want to be doing sketches first. Dum dum dum.

I'm not sure there's even an Apple store in my CITY, but I'm willing to buy on trust. :D (Maybe a little too willing...)

Excellent!! And tell me, with regard to the pen tools - I see all sorts of shiny 'airbrushes' and 'classic ink pen' applications, about 100 euro each, yum. How necessary are these and what's the difference between them and the pen you get with the tablet? (If you please, sir!)

No, actually, this is all good news! I'm such a consumer whore that I would actually go out and spend the price of the tablet again on getting seventeen brushes to go with it. I probably should stick to the basics and find out if I can still even draw, first. :D

One last question - I saw they had replacable nibs onsite - does this mean they run out?

Thanks again!!!

Um. Since University sucks the mojo from me... Maybe when I graduate I could get a tablet? XD So no advice, sorry!

You should read it! Pretend it's original fic! (This is my hook line, by the way. :D)

I was going to wait till I graduated too, but then I got impatient.

Yeah, I got that feeling off the Bamboo too. It was kind of a money issue, but I figure I might as well man up and spend an extra hundred to get something decent. (I have a scanner in my printer, anyway.)

ahahahha, I have had the next reply to your email open in my thing for like DAYS but was always too tired/confused to finish it. I'll just say basically here.

INTUOS INTUOS. I mean, if you think you're going to use it a lot. I love mine sooooooooo much. I'm sure the Bamboo is fine and all, and maybe I'm just a snob, but the Intuos DOES have twice the levels of sensitivity!

And as for paper -- you don't look at the tablet when you draw, you look at the screen. Putting paper down on any tablet will just confuse the hell out of you. But you can scan things in (if you're trying to trace) and make it the bottom layer on your photoshop/gimp/whatever thingum and then put your drawing on a new layer over it.

And as for the pens, I just use the one that came standard. Graphics programs have soooooo many different settings for paintbrushes/etc that I don't see why you would need it built into the pen.

Oh, this wasn't a grudgey post! I just didn't want to bother you while you're sick, and I'm quite impatient to buy the fuck out of one of these. (My parents are doing this annoying thing where they won't let me get it off the internet, but WHATEVER.)

Thanks for telling me to look at the screen! I forsee much saved angst in this knowledge. :DDD

Oh, phew. Like I said above, I'd be very tempted to buy the airbrush and ink pen. But if I can just get the settings on the computer then it's all good.
