Hello and welcome to ten months later, I know. Despite the burgeoning fandom inclusive of JGL, I resisted watching this film because it's not my type of film. Watching it, at long last, merely confirmed this. I also realised that the guy playing Eames is the Tom Hardy everyone's been getting their panties in a twist over. GUYS. HE ... HE COMBS HIS HAIR AND HIS SHOES ARE POINTY, WHAT THE HELL AM I MISSING HERE?!

I am continually amazed by JGL's acting skills. I'd hate to be him; he makes each character he plays so individual and different that I wonder if there's a him left behind. Not that it matters to me, the viewer. He really owned his part, especially given that he had about ten lines of dialogue.

The Eames/Arthur I will buy, if only so I can read the fic. (Am not convinced by 'darling', though.) I await being surprised, because Inception, like The Social Network, is so dark regarding relationships that I can't see any genesis for cute, fluffy fic - ie, the type I want to read. The ship that jumped my shark was Eames/'I bought the airline' Saito. I wonder if there's any of that about?

I hated Marion Cotillard's character. It would have helped if anyone said her name properly - was it Moll or Maul? MAUL. I SWEAR TO GOD. I didn't give a shit about Cobbs because of her.

So I'm off to find fic for this and also for Misfits, which I just finished the first season of. My reaction to Robert Sheehan is what most people's is to Tom Hardy. THE CURLS. I have to lol at how he's enunciating though. Helen knows my theory about the reason Irish people can understand British and American accents perfectly but it doesn't work the other way (we watch American and British TV. There is no such thing as Irish TV). I suppose it makes sense - no one would understand him otherwise - but whoa, does it verge on over-acting.

Robert Sheehan makes me almost cry with laughter. (Every time he speaks, it's basically awesome.) Misfits is great. I watched the second season on E4 and my housemate got me Season One for Christmas. So I'm working backwards.

I genuinely like the show on its own merits, despite some implausibility issues (like, booze in the community centre? EVERYTHING EVER happening in the community centre? I doubt they are that much of a social mecca).

He's basically playing himself there (slowed down). I kind of want to move to Port Laoise. :P

I saw Inception in the theater and went, "Well, that was neat." And then had no urge to see/hear/write/read about it ever again. I don't get it. I have been sitting here not getting it for months now. And I PARTICULARLY don't get Tom Hardy at all.

You should check out Misfits s2 before you look too hard for fic because there are some major changes that go on with who's going to be shipped with whom. Also, because it's GREAT. And I don't just say that because of Robbie's accent and curls, although I admit that's like 50% why.

I kept thinking things like, "But the projections don't HAVE to be attacking. That's just made up to allow for battle scenes in the film ... hang on. The WHOLE THING is made up shut up now brain." And also 'Dreams don't work like that ftlog.' Basically, I want to read fic, but I never can unless I've seen/read the original. BRING IT ON I SAY.

I am very pro-Simon/Nathan (or even RPS Robert/Iwan - ino am bad person); I'd be curious about what'd make that change. I guess I'll hold out. Not exactly a hardship, although I must say I'm glad for 6-episode seasons. The effort required to keep up with series like House or True Blood because of the sheer number of eps is exhausting. I hope it starts a new trend.

I wanted the dreams to be dreamier! There was nothing dreamy about them at all. Bah. I've read some cute fic but mostly I don't buy Eames and Arthur settling down to raise kids. I just DON'T.

WELL. In that case you should watch S2 because there's an episode where Nathan and Simon kiss. In fact their growing friendship is basically the main subplot of S2, starting with the first episode when Simon says, "I just want to be your friend ;_____;" and going through Nathan's fairly absurd idea of what "friendship entails. There's other great stuff, too, although I think the villains of the week are dumber in s2. The character stuff is great, though.

I'm not convinced by the Darling, either! Which is a bit like sacrilege, but true. I always though it was contemptuous and not teasing, but where everyone else goes, I will follow. I was more drawn to Cobb/Siato, myself, though I've read some lovely Eames/Saito. Like this one for example. If you ever need recommendations, I've been reading for months, so I'd love to help out. And thanks for reminding me to watch Misfits. XD

If I hadn't already hear whispers about it I might have been a little more sold? But it's like basing the entirety of H/D on Harry stalking Draco in whatever book it was. I mean, yes, it's great to twist things, but the meaning is what you supply yourself.

What pairing would you like. unfortunately I can't find any more good E/S. Such a rare pairing. I can recommend lots of Arthur/Eames, though, if you're interested.

Oh, I like that pairing too! I have a preference for cute n fluffy, non-established relationship stories, if that can be indulged. :P

Okay so first off rageprufrock is a genuis and she wrote the longest and most awesome backstory of the movie which once you read it makes you incapable of thinking of it as anything but canon. http://archiveofourown.org/works/133555?view_adult=true

gyzm writes the domesticverse it's brilliant it doesn't make you roll your eyes or say they are nothing like that because it is so them

Joosetta writes the Renovations series which is essientlly that Eames buys a flat and unintentionally lures Arthur in

Gyzm also writes some pretty amazing Au's

I have more but I have to go back to work here is the link to my Networks Arthur/Eames tag sadly I am really stuck on that pairing so if you are looking for anything else I can't help you http://www.delicious.com/network/nagi_crawford/arthur%2Feames?page=1

Can't help you with the Eames/Tom Hardy thing, sorry. He does nothing for me. And he doesn't dress that badly/brightly in the film (what's with that, really?). I didn't even catch the darling in the film, so was completely unconvinced by it.

I read Eames/Arthur because there's fic and it means new stuff to read. I was drawn to Cobb/Saito from the movie though - really, fandom, there's an angsty love story right there (and conveniently, the wife is already dead). Since when has fandom shied away from angsty love stories?

I'd be willing to read Eames/Saito, but it hadn't crossed my mind as an option. I will now go and read the fic incandescent suggested.

I just couldn't care about Cobb because of his wife, who annoyed me to death and beyond. Saito is a very convenient character, supplying as he does a reason for the whole film without ever showing us his reason. I would have loved if they played up the disdain Eames showed for the 'tourist' the way another film might've - it would be excellent fic fodder!

I am too. See you on the flipside!
uminohikariuminohikari on January 18th, 2011 01:43 am (UTC)
I read a meta post somewhere proposing that Eames and Cobb should really have been one person, since they both had half-personalities.
The Girl that Blocked her own Shotquatre_k on January 18th, 2011 08:27 am (UTC)
So i'm commenting again because I wanted to say the reason I loved Inception was it was the end of a story not the beginning we don't know the beginning. Who is Arthur? how come he knew where Eames was without even having to look anything up? How did the Cobb's get involved with Dreamsharing? Were they always criminals? it's like a movie made to be ficced there is so much prestory that is never explained

The curls do something to me also, and I adore the character. I have recently gotten copies of the red riding trilogy in which I believe he plays a rent-boy. My heart and loins leap with joy and anticipation.
