If I wanted to hire someone to write a website for me, basically to shelve all my fics in complete format in one place plus a comments section, how would I go about it and how much would it cost?

I feel like my fics are shabby at the moment and now that I'm not constantly adding to them like I used to, or chopping and changing journals and archives, I want something permanent. Also ... I don't think I'll ever write fic again, so this would be a nice full stop. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Wordpress is a great platform that you can do a lot with. Other than that, I'm not sure. A lot of websites link to their designers, so if you see one you like, that's a way to find one.

See, the point is, I don't want to do ANY of the work. Am lazy and also unskilled!

You could talk to me. *g*.

I'm launching my web design business in January, to include the production of small yet perfectly formed sites...

You could do it on LJ, or on Wordpress.com; or you could have your own domain name hosted for you, and use the Wordpress back end with customised appearance. Basic costs = about 50 Euros a year for hosting and domain. The site design & build would depend on how complex it is and how much work is needed to shift your stories over.

Costs? From about £250 for something straightforward.

Email me (parthenia14@gmail.com) if you want to enquire gently and I'll direct you to my real-life self. Complete with Paypal, LOL.

Do you miss writing? I really, really wish I could write again, but I never really got back into it once I had kids. I feel like a part of me is lost forever, even though it was just crappy fandom porn.

People have said 'don't worry, you'll get back into it', but sadly, I can't see it happening. I barely get time to watch anime anymore - my tv time is mostly reduced to kids' shows during the day (and you know something is wrong when you start finding the Playschool presenters hot!), and the news or whatever is on when Lachlan and I sit down to dinner after the kids are in bed, and then maybe another show or two while I sit and stitch in the evening, but that precludes anything subtitled. Even then, I don't know if it really is just a time thing. I think my brain has really been rewired since having kids, and it's probably even changed in between Elizabeth and Oscar. I can't even get into my accounting stuff anymore - it feels like my brain is just mush these days!

... sorry, I do go on! Cabin fever, much? Or maybe just pleased to get a word in around the constant babble of Miss-almost-four.

Ah, well, I still write - all the time - just not fanfic. The best advice I've heard is from Stephen King and Marian Keyes, who said to respect it like a job. Do it the same time everyday and set a goal in word counts. I don't have kids but I do have a job where I have to stay in the hospital at least once a week for a thirty hour stretch. But I can prioritise writing because it's only a job. Kids are a bit different! Won't be a few years until they can't wait to get away from you :P you'll have loads of time to write then! :)
