Hit by an unforgettable curse

Some good things happened me today! They weren't just amusing, they were actually good.

1. In Communications, we had a practice run of our doing-a-talk-in-front-of-everyone module (it has a proper name, but who cares?); well, it was for two minutes, if you wanted to do it. I said what the hell. It was on any topic, so I chose Troy and 'because the film really annoyed me with all the inaccuracies', I told them the tale as it was supposed to be told, with gods and heroes, from the very creation of the world with Zeus and Cronos and Prometheus. I only got up to the birth of Achilles when I stopped to check how long I'd been talking; three and a half minutes! And everyone in the class went 'Awww!' and wanted me to keep going. Hopefully for the real thing I can fill five minutes with the marriage of Peleus and Thetis, the Golden Apple, the birth of Paris and that of Helen, because that's all I know off the top of my head. (Yay for Roger Lancelyn Green! Having a good memory comes in handy sometimes. Incidentally, I still cannot believe that they killed Menelaus!)

I got heckled by Anthony; for a thirty-year-old, he's really twelve. He passed a comment along the lines of 'You're Australian, sure ye have hardly any history at all' - the implication being, I believe, that who was I to go talking about Ancient Greeks, huh? The girls were very insulted on my behalf, but to be honest, I've got that sort of response my entire life, due to my nationality and knowing things, and far worse to boot; I barely even noticed him.

2. A graphic design class I actually liked! We had to design an invitation to a masked Valentine's Ball, and we were allowed to go on the net to get images. I had a picture of a Cupid/Psyche sculpture in my head after reading The Boy so I found that, and white roses for the background, and shimmery Barbie doll masks, and cut and pasted them about on Photoshop. Although it was only basic technological manipulation, I felt a rare sense of accomplishment at the result, one that I don't get from anything I draw in the first person. I think I'll post it here when I've it printed; the tones even worked well, with white text. Apologies for the waxing lyrical, but as life would have it, I rarely feel this happy about anything, and I spend most of my time playing down my achievements so that people will hate me less. For once I think I did something cool - so there!

3. We finally figured out the story behind Eminem's Like Toy Soldiers video (he is totally the best video artist of today, or ever). The enemy gang comes to kill him but his mate steps between Eminem and the bullet. Yay! I really love the ending of that, and I think it's his best song and video to date. (Not that I own any of his albums; that much swearing does get on my nerves, people like Good Charlotte and Blink 182 find a better balance...my mother has two Eminem albums, though.)

An egg-timer will do, and then say the magic word! (Which is, like, anything.)
