There are few things in heaven and earth, Horatio, that are greater than slash

When listening to American Idiot today (has to be the best album I own; it's impossible to get tired of, and is incidentally an excellent soundtrack for cleaning the bathroom to) Boulevard of Broken Dreams came on (as it does) and I was reminded of sculpture yesterday.

Vernonica the Sap who Masquerades as a Tutor was talking about the Paddy's Day parade. She was convinced that the theme was 'Identity' (yawn). Sharon, who can hold onto ideas like a pitbull terrier, was equally convinced that the theme was 'Caravan of Dreams'. I had no clue; I never learned the actual trick of listening in class. But I was struck by the thought, which I shared with everyone, that the theme should be 'Boulevard of Broken Roadway' and everyone laughed their heads off. The lack of Monty Python in their lives is very telling, if they thought that was funny.

(...I should mention that's an injoke; 'Come to the European City of Culture and see the amazing cultural roadworks!' I mean, they're at it in Princes Street again, and it's not two months since they finished covering up the last pointless hole they dug. The pavements were grand the way they were, I swear!)

Also in sculpture, Andrew was staring at me again, the little berk. ERLACK ERLACK. I heroically prevented myself from tossing paint at his stupid head (but only because we were making collographs with glue and bubblewrap and there was no paint). henbock - imagine the deformed lovechild of Dave and Aidan Hayes. Then double it. That's Andrew. Like, ew.

ETA: *headdesk* Happy Birthday, eliza_b!!

American Idiot is on endless loop on my CD player. Can't get enough of it. So great.

I know! It's amazing. Not like I was even into ... er, rock, or whatever it is, before that. Not to mention the lead singer is HOT.

(Haha, while attempting to reply I got this error message:

Error running style: Died in S2::run_code running ReplyPage::print(): Can't call method "quote" on an undefined value at /home/lj/cgi-bin/ljlib.pl line 5819.

xDD I found that inexplicably funny.)

Dontcha know I control lj too with my awesome powerz of awesomeness?!!

Oh, yes.

You certainly do have interesting classes!

Tell me about this "collograph" concept. I am trying to figure out what can possibly be created by a fusion of glue and bubblewrap, besides hours of glue-peeling, bubble-popping fun.

Your construction sounds like the Big Dig in Boston. They've been working on it for nearly fifteen years now, and they finally finished and now... it leaks. The greatest man-made endeavor on the eastern seaboard, and it LEAKS. I mean COME ON. Anyway, I think everyone would be kind of sad if they did finish it. It's become so much a part of the New England culture that we named an ice cream flavor after it.

Oh, savage fun. Yep.

Collographs; well, what it means in MY class, anyway, is that you collect a load of crap, like bubblewrap and stones and sand and cardboard, stick it onto more cardboard to make a design, 'seal' it with glue, cover it with paint and print from it.

..., I know.

That was the Irishest anecdote ever! An ice cream flavour, no less! Is it true you have hundreds and hundreds of flavours? *drools*

LEAKS. *gigglesnort*
Caitcoralia13 on January 30th, 2005 09:30 am (UTC)
I like this whole "savage" thing. Is it is synonym for "really"?

Interesting... You really should put picts of this stuff on your lj! Your friends and minions would love to see it!

Well, a lot of Irish people live in Boston... And yes. Yes, we do. Don't you have a lot, too?

I don't know what they are going to do about the leakage. Basically what they did was put a lot of the highways in Boston under ground and put a park on top. All the other cities were like, "WE MUST COMPETE". But now, I don't know what they're gonna do.

Yeah, it is! Picked it up from Sharon...Millstreet slang for you!

I'm planning to! It's just we never seem to get around to developing films in my house, and the digital camera doesn't work, of course. (We're jinxed when it comes to technology).

We have: chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, Neapolitian, and Vienetta. Er, that's about it.

....WE HAVE A ROAD UNDER A RIVER! WE DO!
Caitcoralia13 on January 30th, 2005 08:28 pm (UTC)
As to the ice cream flavors:
Are you SERIOUS?!?! Wow... We have the main flavors that every brand makes (Choc., vanilla, strawberry, neapolitian, cookies 'n' cream, choc. chip cookie dough, fudge, rocky road, blah, blah, blah) but then all the brands have flavors specific to them. Like recently, Breyer's started doing all the different candy bars in ice cream, like Snickers, Almond Joy, Milky Way, Reese's, etc. And Ben and Jerry are the kings of bizarre flavors (Phish Food, Caramel Sutra, Oatmeal...)
...
I miss ice cream.

You do?? In Cork? How cool are you? Boston is jealous.
Caitcoralia13 on January 30th, 2005 08:29 pm (UTC)
I should not that with the long list of ice cream flavors, I am bragging a little. And also trying to convince you that you must, at some point in our lives, visit me in the states!
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on January 31st, 2005 10:03 am (UTC)
I think I had a Mars ice cream once. It was nummy. Phish food? That's not what I think it is, is it?

Why, where's it gone?

Ha, you so would not be jealous of the Lynch roundabout. Or the Glanmire roundabout. Biggest roundabouts going into Cork, and do you think they have traffic lights? Niente.
Caitcoralia13 on January 31st, 2005 07:07 pm (UTC)
Well, it depends on what you think it is. It is named after the band Phish, and it is chocolate ice cream with I think marshmallow, caramel, and really good chocolate fish in it. Yum!

We don't have it at college - only frozen yogurt! Well, we have chocolate and vanilla at the campus cafe, but I try to avoid it, for the sake of my thighs.

HAH! In the Simpsons ep where they went to England, they got stuck in a roundabout all day and finally Homer just pulled out and crashed through the gates of Buckingham and hit the Queen's carriage and gave her whiplash and then got sent to the Tower of London and... it was good.

Re: MMMMMMM! Roadkill
No need for bazookas then?

And as for Andrew, I'd rather be boiled alive in my own spit, thank you.
