It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door...

Wow. Well, my brother is officially a rugger-bugger. His team won their match today, and he scored three tries. He's so...different to me. I mean, I took PE (even in sixth year, because, basically, there were boys doing it, and that's a damn' good reason to do anything), but I never did it. In my school we had two choices: indoor basketball and outdoor football. Basketball was dominated by the gaa-ers, while the footballers got to remain undisturbed by, eg, teachers, because it's always cold and wet outside in Ireland. And I had a lovely time pretending to be a goalie and gossiping and getting tones for my mobile. (www.polyphonicringtonez.com/wap - they're free!)

Somehow I don't think my brother will be following my excellent example.

He also came to me for advice on girls today. He's eleven, and loads of girls fancy him already. It's like, grand, whatever you're having yourself...but me? Giving romantic advice? I didn't like to mention that his love life is far, far more active than mine (which went extinct about when the dinosaurs did) because hell, he's got enough to gloat about as it is.

Anyway, fandom stuff YAY!

Yesterday was declared HET DAY by hobviously , which was cool, because I was writing Lily/James anyway.

I always get...surprised by the potential of het. Which is stupid. I'm a straight female, after all. Not a gay male. You'd wonder, sometimes...

Anyway, this is mainly for coralia13's benefit, because she don't like me to be allus slashin'. For everyone else, though - spread the het lurrrve! Heedlyheedlyhee.

The sunlight streamed in through high windows, so tall that their pointy peaks were lost in shadows. It was bloody annoying - the sunlight, that is, not the windows themselves, although Lily was was in a mood to find windows irritating too if she happened to glance at them in the wrong way. The sun, now, it got in her eyes, forcing her to squint at the parchment upon which she was writing. It also glanced off the shiny covers of her textbooks, making colours dance in a most irksome fashion under her eyelids. Lily just couldn't see what they had to be so happy and - and dance-y about.

Mind you, they didn't have to write twelve inches on the use of Bezoars in medicinal potions. Nor did they have a James Potter tormenting them to within in an inch of their lives every waking moment. Or at least, every waking moment during which Lily had to suffer Potter's precense. Even though she made sure to stay well away from him in class, and took different routes when out of it, he always managed to just turn up.

Usually with a Dungbomb.

Lily sighed, feeling much put-upon. She had her OWLs approaching with amazing speed and she didn't need a silly gadabout like Potter needling her constantly. One day, perhaps, he would grow up and grow out of it.

Sadly, it seemed, that day wasn't going to come any day soon. Like next Wednesday. That would have been so wonderfully convenient.

Lily shook her head and pulled out her wand. A second later, the curtains swished closed over the bright panes of glass, leaving Lily in darkness and slightly more dusty than she had been before.

A house-elf gave her an indignant look, but forbore to comment. It wasn't in their nature to criticise, after all.

And besides, it was hardly Lily's fault she had to study in the kitchens. It was Potter's! If only house-elves had the power to make him disappear, or prevent him from playing forty rounds of Exploding Snap in a single sitting, or even to just shut up. If only.

A girl could dream. And in the meantime -

'Could you fetch me some pumpkin juice, please?'

Your brother coming to you for relationship advice is exactly like the girls at work asking me what to do about their boyfriend trouble. Like I have a clue???? My longest relationship lasted, oh, about two weeks.

I don't even HAVE relationships. I just get off with people. Boyfriends are so irksome...

My brother doesn't understand. Yet. xD

I am stupidly entranced by your icon. I have no idea what's going on or why, but it's hilarious.

Hooray for Het Day pimpage! *dances*

Twas brillig on thy part, dear heart. xD

This is sort of a weird post, and I'm up three hours later than usual so I can comment. The thing is, many of us can do het any time, but slash has an exotic fascination. I'll never be a gay man in this lifetime, but I am a straight woman. (Yawn.) Not knocking it or anything, but what you are is usually less astonishing (the number 9) than what you are not. Like Sabrina (pre college), or wizards, or movie stars.

Sorry. I'll go back to my burrow now. Not THE Burrow.

Sort of wierd? What did I do wrong? xD

There's a strange fascination to writing het, too; you can make it so bloody angsty and stuff and people believe it, because it happens. Yet no one really knows what it's like for gay boys and we don't really investigate it, do we?

So - me as a boy is more astonishing? I wonder would I have an easier life...

Ugh, damn these children and the fact that they will be considered normal in school. 'Tis unfair, I tell you.
My neighbour's just like your brother - he's the same age as me, but we're total opposites (I really don't know why we get on at all...), and he's always asking what girls think about dating and guys and all that. Uhh, yes, I have a love life and give reliable advice...

Oh the fun of P.E. And then when summer reports go home I always get a C and a 'participates well.' I'd bet money that the teacher doesn't even know who I am.

Lily/James is one of the few het relationships I actually like, probably because it usually turns up in R/S fics. Yay for reading het! I should probably try doing that more often...

Is it the books, do you think?

We never even got grades. Thank god we missed out on that horror.

Watch out for emerald eyes, though. They sounds awfully dangerous. xD

You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be...
...swept off to.

*high-fives* My brother is also eleven, or thereabouts (twelve) and is a rugger-bugger. I'm actually on the netball team for the first time this year, but it's like a completely superfluous position - I never get picked for matches, those who've been coming since Year 7 are too amazing - I just look sporty and healthy in my nifty trackie bottoms. Which I am not.

Except my brother does not seem to show any interest in girls. Or vice versa. He was quite a player at his nursery school, though... he broke all the toddler's hearts. Even the boys.

I do think he's gay. Or, if not gay, then extremely exuberant.

Mind you, they didn't have to write twelve inches on the use of Bezoars in medicinal potions. Nor did they have a James Potter tormenting them to within in an inch of their lives every waking moment. That is so Lily/James. *swoons* The cuteness of the ficlet is swaying me to the dark side!

Ok, I see what you mean by The Het. But *begins to baby-talk* slashy slashy nice. Slashy slashy nice.

Re: You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be.
I was on, like, a badminton doubles team? We won. Or rather, Derina won, and I stood around looking pretty with the racquet. Which was considerably prettier than me, actually.

My brother just walked in and asked me what Aries girls like for their birthdays. Because his crush - Claire - is an Aries. And presumably as an Aries I know EXACTLY her heart's desire.

I told him I'd need some time to think...

The good thing about the R/S slashy, anyway, is that you can do both at the same time!

Two things 1) If my brotehr ever comes to me for relationship advice (which is hardly unlikely) I think I may just laugh in his face. Not to be mean, but the thought of anyone asking me for advice in well...anything is kinda funny. And OMG I am exactly the same way in PE, oh to having sporting abilities.

I like your Lily. She's very...Lily, if you know what I mean.
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on February 20th, 2005 01:21 pm (UTC)
I think he only did it because he had no one else to talk to. You don't really, when you're eleven and all your mates are idiots.

PE skill is overrated. OVERRATED, I SAY.

That's good! I quite like her.
Caitcoralia13 on February 21st, 2005 09:51 am (UTC)
Oh, I like it! I haven't had time to read what you sent me yet (I am off to do it right now, so I won't say much more). I love L/J!!!
Ah, relationships. My cousin sounds like your brother in the romance department, except my cousin is not looking for it. He is fifteen, and two years ago, some random girl from his class called him one night and tried to get him to guess who she was. He gave up immediately and told her to call someone else. Somewhere, a little girl's heart is broken...
Anyway, I have my own problems in this regard, which will soon appear on my lj in picture form. You shall see.
Off to read awesome L/J!

All I got was a post to Laura; I forbore to comment, I'm not Laura...xD. Why does everyone except me have busy fulfilled lives? Today, I watched my class wank around trying to organise a parade with USELESSNESS and wove two inches of a friendship bracelet.

That's ALL.

On L/J, though, I'm on chapter five and everyone seems to be delightfully OOC. I love me.

*waves flag of het* Slash scare(s/d) me. (I'm not quite sure if it still does.)

It doesn't seem my sister's going to deviate all that much from my standard of coolness (except in a few areas like my dazzling intelligence and lack-of-generic-popularity versus her less-than-brilliance and a desire for Hilary Duff transformation and I know it is harsh but unfortunately it is also the truth) so I don't think I have much to worry about. :D I could almost want a little brother.

And I love the fic, dear, but you know I always do. Perfect timing, and that is awesome.
