We read that we ought to forgive our enemies but we do not read that we ought to forgive our friends

How I do love Easter Eggs - especially the seam where the two halves of the egg are soldered together (or whatever esoteric thing it is egg-makers do to make them that pleasing shape. Unless they're actually laid by some unimaginably large chocolate chicken! w00t. Now there's a thought). No other type of chocolate compares. Obviously, the two king size Mars bars which come with it are not to be sniffed at (although I do so wish I could properly make up my mind every year whether I prefer Mars Bars or Kit Kats - but either way, I can make a bar last a fortnight, so all is good).

I managed to cut both my ankles whilst shaving. I am The World's Greatest Eejit. Oohshit, how it stings. Going down the stairs was utter torture. (...yeah, I don't handle pain well. Or at all.)

Um. Rambling will ensue.

I've decided I don't like intellislash. I don't think I ever did. Which is odd considering the type of fiction I can stomach from authors - you know, published ones. My favourite book of all time is The God of Small Things, which puzzled my father and took him months to read. It took me three days (the first time). I suppose that's it, really; fanfic writers are just that - fanfic writers. If I wanted Rushdie-style ranconteurs I'd go buy another of his books. What I desire from fanfic is something above what anyotherknight so rightly terms 'the contents' (people who are content to read crap) desire and something below the sort of mind-blowingness others desire. I basically think it would be a waste to write something stupendously, Booker-prize-ish good in fanfic. All I'm looking for is a good story. Not too heavy on the plot, because Voldemort is someone I really don't care to see in anyone's hands but JK's. And not too squeamishly romantic. Not because, as I've come to decide, it's OOC for characters to act this way; merely because I am not squeamishly romantic myself, can't understand it or abide it in others and have to carry hope for something slightly more original. I get it, too, sometimes.

As for the OC, I've watched one and a half DVDs. I suppose to carry on with my Potterverse love/hate trend of shipping, I should be shipping Luke/Ryan or something. *grins* Summer is such an arse; I didn't like her at the start, but am growing to. I can see where her and Seth are going. All I want is for him to go to Ryan but hey, they have all the hallmarks of Teh Ultimate Slash - fighting for each other, Seth wanting him around, neediness ad infinitum. I ... doubt I'll fanfic it, simply because I can't get my head around writing fanfic for a programme that one watches. Heh, not like that fandom really needs me adding crap to it anyway.

Does Sandy ever brush/wash his hair? Like, ever? Oh, and Marissa, Ryan and Summer have to have three of the most annoying accents in the entire United States.

Adam Brody, on the other hand, was speedily added to 'people I want to have the babies of'. (The others being...actually, I won't say. It would probably come off as quite squicky.)

Another Seth fangirl!
How I do love Easter Eggs - especially the seam where the two halves of the egg are soldered together (or whatever esoteric thing it is egg-makers do to make them that pleasing shape.

I always wondered about that. I thought perhaps they made the two halves seperately, then licked the edges and held the two parts together while the chocolate dried, thereby fusing the two chocolate pieces into one EGG.

I know, soldering sounds saner.

I managed to cut both my ankles whilst shaving.

Have you ever tried the other ways? I did home-waxing once... my legs got covered in honey-smelling goop that would not wash off, the fabric strips did not stick to my legs, so all my psyching up for the pain was wasted, and I scalded my fingers in the hot water that was meant to melt the wax. The dapi- depila- cream works, but it takes about half an hour, during which you have to remain standing in a fixed position, otherwise you'll get chemical goop everywhere, no matter HOW careful you are.

Intellislash is usually too long for me to read. I have a very short attention spa- ooh, SHINY PENNY!

You must not like Luke. I forbid it.

Does Sandy ever brush/wash his hair?
No.

As always was. xD
*is thoughtful* I quite like the idea of a big chocolate blowtorch, sort of spraying chocolate glue between the two bits?

Or yeah, the chicken. Because that's sane.

I only started shaving recently (hence the rivers of BLOOD). I always used Immac before, which was painless and pleasingly comprehensive; it smells and doesn't last long though. I have yet to get the knack of shaving; I inspected my legs there and there is still HAIR on them. Urf. What I do for buying new shoes, honestly...

WAX. NEVAIR EVAR WOULD I DO THAT TO MYSELF. Did you see the pain comment? Did you? OWWW.

No, Seth is basically my perfect man. Summer's so BLIND.

Gah, shaving cuts are horrible. The first time it happened to me I was like: Did not know knees could bleed that much...

I actually haven't formed an opinion on her, haven't watched enough; but her voice, definitely annoying in the extreme. And scarily skinny, too.

am pausing for a moment from Hot Old Dude thread (and Ian? yes, saw him in WestEnd and man, the dude is good),
to latch on to your Fanfiction comment- because, hey, fun.

Sometimes the mood takes me to read intellislash, though I'm a big fan of long chaptered fics myself. I like the writing and the play, and themes. Loved rhoddlets fics. Though "intellislash" the term bugs me- like the rest of us are big dummies.

The thing though, is isn't intellislash the big opposite of squishy romances? or plot?
I usually leave the term for sharp vignette-y fics, and they usually don't have the core of mushy sentiment that I go for personally. They seem bleak and sparse, which works amazingly well.

O well, I'm just a multi-fic junkie with a craving for Teh Funneh Fic, but will always swear by my huge epic romances (Thicker than Blood! Thicker than Blood!).
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on March 28th, 2005 02:24 pm (UTC)
I'm torn; I like chaptered fics but they call for a lot of investment. I like detailed one-shots mainly.

Good call on the 'are we dummies' thing. It's a term that bugs everyone in one way or another, I think. The one thing I'm sure is classified as it is Cassandra Claire's 'A Season in Hell'. Yes, I am contradicting myself - I do it A LOT. I don't like them that bleak. You can have romance without teddy bears and 'baby' - or so I like to believe. I guess I do like resolution after all; the hallmark of intellislash is to leave it hanging, I think.

Thicker than Blood? H/D? Who by?

Okay, first, if I could count the number of scars on my ankles... I'd find seventeen. Pathetic.

Plot in fanfic is, well, superfluous really. I like character-driven fanfics, because that's what I want more of: the characters. I read fics that revolve around the "I want these characters to get together in the most believable manner possible, then have realistic sex, then go through some turmoil before acknowledging their attraction," with a noticable lack of trite angst/gag-worthy attempts at Harlequinisms... Not quite intellislash, not content, either. Just something to keep me busy while I'm avoiding math homework.

You put your finger on it, as ever. *shakes head* I should just employ you to write my posts for me! Characterisation; me likey.

Intellislash, eh? I can see your point, though I like something with a nice meaty plot. Plot and character interaction. pen_and_umbra struck the perfect balance. PERFECT, I say, between plot and slash.

Honestly, I hesitated to even classify Jigsaw as slash. It was never meant to be a shippy fic. It was meant to be a story where I could bring back Sirius. The slash is not, nor was it meant to be, a driving force of the fic. I touted it as slash because I know no one reads genfic. And I love genfic. I like the "What If...?" type ideas (and Jigsaw is totally "What If...?") and the plots and whatnot. Mushy romance does nothing for me. I want characterization, I want a story. I'm not saying it has to be ZOMG DEEPEST STORY EV0R, but a little depth is nice. Fun is nice -- I like humor and character reactions. I like adventure and action -- blow some shit up. I do like a little romance -- slash it up, by all means. I want everything, and I want it now. I want my cake and I want to eat it, too.

Honestly, here's how it works in my mind. I want to read something that reminds me of HP. I could name a bajillion fics that raped canon and are horrible imho, but they're well-loved and incredibly popular. That astounds me.

I like balance in all stories. I strive to achieve it, but suspect I fall short. It's the Ravenclaw in me, I suppose. Too much of anything bothers me, as does not enough of something.
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on March 29th, 2005 01:07 pm (UTC)
Grr, I wish I wouldn't contradict myself so but...I want relationship in fics. That's what I came to fandom for; JK can give me all the action I need. It's bedroom action I'd like. I've always wanted authors to go further in characterisation and relationships than action; never let a plot get in the way of a good story, that's my motto.

This is probably why I could never finish the Draco Trilogy.

I always love Easter eggs before Easter. Now the concept of cho... choco... can't-say-the-word-or-I'll-puke is making me sick.
I have yet to learn the concept of self-restraint.

I hate fic with a plot. I read it for the angst and the boysex and the characterisations (when I can). I'll read the books for plot thankyouverymuch.

Yay for OC! Personally, I really like Summer. She always gets the best lines, though I can't remember what she was like at the start of the series.
As for Marissa, I can't stand her! Ugh. Her general being brings me pain.
*chants* Ryan/Seth! Ryan/Seth! Ryan/Seth! There's this amazing episode in season two where it rains and they're gazing longingly out the windows at each other and then phone sex ensues (read: they talk on the phone)! Oh my guuuuuh, I love it.

See, you should never get me started on the OC...

That's what I was trying so badly to say...I suck at analysis. I should just get the rest of ye to write these entries! But anyway, YES.

I love Summer! I dunno, I can't warm to Anna. Maybe it's her stupid hair, I don't know. And of course, Summer's real name is Rachel.

How many seasons are there? And how many boxsets can I get my grubby paws on?

Ohhh I know that feeling (pain!). I hate shaving, every time I get in the shower I can feel my razor sitting there in the corner glaring at me balefully. And actually attempting to shave? it's a like a car crash within a train wreck in World War Three. Yeesh.

He coughed and I nearly had a nervous breakdown. I just sat there laughing my stupid childish head off and he probably thought "what a twat!!" I axtually physically cringed when I wrote that and that was the reason he never said he loved me and not because I was a student and the little fact that he actually didnt!
