But then I say, 'Fred, so's yeast'.

Hmm. Well, I'm not quite sure how to say what I want to say here, only that it's been floating around in the hindbrain for the odd couple of weeks now and, I suppose, I need to stop treating lj like a competition and more like a repository for thoughts? (HA, as if, squeals the Aries.)

Fandom points, handily bolded for ease of skipping. Oh, and -- all of this is personal opinion. None of it is gospel truth. It mainly deals with H/D, too, because I don't really know about the classics of other ships, except Harry/Snape.

Seamus Finnegan. Mainly for the people in Ireland or English people who know a bit about our geography. Where does he come from? What part of the isle? Has JK said anything? Is his father English or Irish or Transylvanian? Assuming that we can play with his history, where would you like to see him coming from? I thought Schull, for some reason, or Mullingar, for equally senseless reasons. Senseless in that I've never been to Mullingar, don't even know what county it's in. I've been to Schull (yay for moi!) -- boring place, I thought, too dull to even be a tourist trap and depressingly like Cobh. I don't know, towns near the sea in Ireland tend to get this browbeaten look -- obviously the sea makes them even colder in summer, whatall. I suppose he could be from the North; if his father's English that would probably fit better, actually. For my own self writing him, it would obviously be easier if he came from Limerick city or county, Cork city or county, Dublin, or Meath, because I know these places. Any thoughts, though? *tries to refrain from begging, because she would really like opinions*

Classics and BNFs. Cassandra Claire is the ultimate HP BNF, I'd venture, in that everyone knows who she is and everyone has an opinion on her. However, you get caches of smaller famouses, as I like to call them -- names that you see on lj and after a while become accustomed to. People don't really bitch about them to the same extent ... Then there's the list of 'classics' that you have to read because people refer to them all the time. (Point? What point, bitches?)

Dammit, see, I can't write a meaningful post to save my life. Even to save my hard-drive I could not. I have to say though, having a huge flist and folist at the same time must mean that after a certain point, you can't make new friends because you just don't have the time to trawl through the flist. Which I think is sad. My flist is miniscule but for the most part, I know quite a bit to a lot about the people on it and they respond to my comments, etc., which I enjoy. It's been said before and will be said again, that the kick-arse BNFs never respond to comments from newbies. Again, sad.

Still, say in the H/D ship, when you -- I mean me -- the lowly deckscrubber, gets to know the names of the captain and crew and the gourmet chefs, it does give you this awesome sense of belonging -- I know that! I know this! I know them! Vessels of rabid contagious jealousy, without a second's doubt, but fun all the same. And fun is where it's at.

I think he's from... Limerick! Because I live there, and it would make me happy.
Yes, I know it's a stupid answer, but I honestly can't think of a better reason for him to come from anywhere else.

Well if you ever meet a fandom-y person in real life (this has happened to me all of twice) then you can discuss the BNFs and all the ice is broken and you can just babble on about nothing for ages afterwards. So I've got no problem with them at all. And plus, if you strike up a conversation with them then it's like, I dunno, talking to a celebrity or something (yeah, pathetic, I know).

Yes, I could see him mocking people about plying their trade on the Dock Road .:gigglesnort:. Obviously no one would get it, though.

Oh, I don't have a problem with them. Mostly I love their writing. I'm not quite sure what I was trying to say, to be honest...that's it, though, it's like talking to a celebrity and that makes me feel uncomfortable and lower than the worms!!

Ah, but you see, I got into fandom only two years ago, after OotP. By then IP was finished and CC and her contemporaries are still writing...so you see Rhysenn has kind of fallen off the radar as a current radar, because I don't think she's done anything recently for HP? Much like Ivy Blossom. (I miss her.)

Oh, good! I want to check against it to see how many I have to go. (It's like books! Only free!)

Speaking as someone who actually does have a large and fobidding friends/friends of list, I can honestly say that you end up making more new friends than you did when you were a wee LJ tadpole. People tend to tell their friends about you, or you get random friendings because people have this miss-guided idea that if that many people like you, then they must too!

Gah, that reads like something scrawled on my sphicter, but it'll have to do.

P.S: I tend to read all of my friends list, excepting when I go on holiday, or don't go online for more than three days. Skipping back 500+ entries is not my idea of fun.

Don't I know that, sure, that's why I friended you. Dork. *pokes out tongue* That, and you got 40+ comments for an entry about socks, so I figured there had to be something I wasn't getting...

Yeah, I get tired just skipping 100 or so. That's why I imagine having a HUGE flist must be a drag at times, although of course new friends are fun.

I look at the stars, and they say, 'Eppur si muove' seems to have a different meaning every time. So WTF does it mean?'

'I don't know, stars, I don't know,' I sigh, drunk and sad and waiting for Godot, 'so perhaps scoradh can tell me. Because it's her birthday week and she is omniscient for these few days.'

Does it mean 'post a comment' we wonder? Qui sait?

Surely Seamus is a Dubliner?

^_^xx

'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars', quoth Oscar Wilde; and Galileio did say -- in Italian -- 'But it moves' (Eppur si muove). Talking about the earth going around the sun, I assume! It reminded me of Didacylos (Two-fingered!), the philosopher in the Discworld, who said, 'The turtle moves'. xD

Why are you sad? Is it because you are drunk?

I get the feel of that; but you may be thinking of the actor, who is a bred in the bone Dub. xD

Hi! Was just mooching around LJ and found yours through a mutual interest in the Ross O'Carroll- Kelly books. Anyway, just wanted to comment here to say I think that Seamus is from Kerry, because he has that poster of the Kenmare Kestrels Quidditch team up on the wall beside his bed.

Yay for someone else appreciating the geh-nius that is R O'C K! (Just realised his initials spell that...) *wolf whistles*

Yes, you are so right! Excellent canon point! From here on in Seamus is a Kerryman.

Oh, the jokes I can have...ahem.

Sounds like you're back to enjoying the fandom? If so, I'm glad.

I, however, just can't like the idea of BNFs. Overrated, as a group, in my opinion.

Sorry my comments are so delayed and brief. School, school, school - you know the drill.

Why does everyone hate Katie Leung?
I see what's going on! I change my layout to naff lollipops, and then you change yours to PRON! You SO want to be teh cooler than me... *snarls*

Aries. Stupid Aries going to be stupid nineteen soon and is not worthy of any stupid birthday fic.

I keep de-friending remusxsirius, because I have too many communities friended. And then everyone posts PURE GOLD when I don't get the updates. And I miss it, so... this is not a happy post.

Will stop being generally agressive and maudlin and go and eat something. Yes? *grins*

Re: Why does everyone hate Katie Leung?
Same reason they hate/d Emma Watson -- they're not her and SHE gets to be in the FILMS etc etc etc.

*wails* It's not porn! Not really! It's ... pretty. Yeah.

Subtle way of telling me I'm getting none, dude. *sniffs*

Wouldn't you defriend the other comms instead and keep rxs because you like it?

Is food a cure for that? Wow!

Seamus Finnegan? Which part of Ireland does he come from? I don't know, how about County Clare, I always liked the sound of that name. And as for the fandom BNFs, pah. They're too famous as writers of fanfic to be famous for anything else. And they're very clique-y. Anyway, all these fandom posts from you are promising: what are you working on? Something for the Big Bang challenge? No way will I make that deadline.
every Starbucks should have a polar bearscoradh on April 12th, 2005 01:42 pm (UTC)
With some help, I determined that he's from Kerry, because he supports the Kenmare Kestrels (Kenmare's in Kerry). However it borders Clare, if that's any consolation!

Well, I have the BB at least three-quarters way done, it'll be there. I have another pipeline project although it may be staying in the pipe for some time to come...

It's still hard not to be a little jealous of the BNFs.
