A shout into the void
This is a booty beta call.

It's not urgent, but I would like to post this fic sometime in the next few centuries so if anyone has a free day/weekend that they could conceivably spend with a red biro (and not kill me afterwards), do let me know. I have a 30,000 word, R/NC-17 Harry/Ron ready and waiting for one lucky member of the audience.

I don't think it needs anything more than a run-through for typos and perhaps a little pruning. I could be wrong. It's not for a challenge or anything, but I think letting a story this size off into cyberspace on its own steam is a little irresponsible.

Any volunteers? There could be something good in it for you.

Well, there could.

Oh. My. God.

Well, not this weekend, but if it's done by Thursday.....

Unless I could take it to Prague with me....

He's not here right now, but I can take a message --?

(I know, that's irredeemably annoying but I never can help myself.)

It is finished now, if that's what you mean. Certainly don't take it on hols with you! It counts as work and that's not allowed. If you want to do it when you come back that's okay. No rush. ♥

Then send it now - I don't go until Friday, and I would kill for new Harry/Ron - no matter such a long one!!!

I do, but I would be ever so grateful for a second opinion! It's always a scrabble to get a beta so I keep semi-permanent ones, but seeing as you're up for it I'll send it before you change your mind!

It's brilliant, isn't it? My friend gabbysun made it. Use it if you wish!

:) Great, I will credit her then.

Btw, I'm reading Yatteraneeze as per you "rec" :D. You were right, 'course, it's really insightful for a manga, though it kind of looks out of place for me because it breaks the established patterns of the genre(or of what I have read). I have to ask, is just me that's freaked out because everybody tries to rape Hiroya and everybody is forgiven like it was accidental or something pretty blaze? I seem to recall you mentioning the rape thing but I thought it was just *once*, I think it's been like three times already and I'm not finished yet.

Hiroya's virtue is constantly being impugned, that is true! For a manga that's otherwise pretty level-headed and realistic, the raping stuff is an aberration. However, I'm so used to people being raped willy nilly in manga and having no one bat an eyelid that I suppose it didn't register that much with me.

The only explanation I can think of (and it is a rather poor one) is the culture-difference. Some things in Japan are more acceptable than they are in Western society and vice versa. I'm not saying they condone rape, of course. But, up until pretty recently censorship in Japan was tightly controlled and regulated (you can see that in Yat -- lots of stuff is delicately blanked out). Perhaps, now that mangakas have a bit more freedom, they're not quite sure what is socially permissable and what's just in bad taste. I don't know! Your guess is as good as mine.

I must have been reading other genres or ratings of manga then XD.

I knew Japanese were really WEIRD about some things but ignoring rape like that is a bit too much for me(In this case I was pleasantly distracted by other things)

Maybe it is the censorship thing. Do you have any other recs? It's just I want to read some but the idea of starting from zero( i stopped reading in daily basis like two years ago) is a bit daunting...

Well, if it's just shounen-ai it's going to be pretty vanilla and off-stage. I have Gravitation in a hard-copy -- which is rated as 16+ -- on my bookshelf and I seem to recall there being a rape scene of sorts in the second volume. It's a common thing -- then again, you'll have noted that characterisation is also pretty strict (seme/uke dynamics, for one thing) so it stands to reason that they have standard methods of interaction also. I suppose.

Hmm. I've been on dial-up for a few weeks now, but the ones I was following on yaoi_daily were Under Grand Hotel, which is set in a prison and is thus pretty realistic. I find it rather bittersweet, too, for that very reason. The other one was about vampires -- Reverse or something beginning with R -- look for notes about someone called 'King'. Also Gokaru (sp?) Cafe, that was quirky and fun.

Frankly, I stick to one shots mostly, because I don't have the energy to back track through memories to find the older stuff (and the links tend to have expired too).

oh, Gravitation :D! My fist yaoi, I loved it, though I watched the anime and only read a couple of volumes of the manga.

Yes, I was a bit bothered by how strictly the seme/uke dynamics worked even outside of the sex, i guess i will have to extend the same leeway i give that to the rape issue.

I will check these ones, thanx.
