Does anyone out there know of any methods to make yourself fall asleep? I don't have insomnia as such, but even when I'm really tired -- like now -- I find it difficult to get to sleep. I usually have to stay up till anywhere between one and three in the morning before my eyes will consent to the whole shutting biz. As you might have guessed, this will not be conducive to my study/lecture schedule in September. It happened all last year too -- I kept nodding off in the shower in the mornings, or having little naps when particularly soothing lecturers were talking. Usually physiologists. I failed physiology three times. You can see where I'm going with this.

So -- anything? Herbal remedies? Teas? Recs for meditation tapes? (I have two already, but they suck.) Voodoo? Glue? Anything, please, I'm begging here.

But if you're going to say 'start reading Carrie at one in the morning,' don't, because I tried that and it didn't work. Good book though.

ETA: Via one of mousapelli's fics (Track 2: Chemistry) I finally found out that Semisonic sings that song. Don't ever say that fanfic teaches you nothing!

One thing that I found worked (and this is a little weird) was mentally counting beans. Lima beans, kidney beans, whatever - but my problem was always that my head wouldn't stop buzzing at me, and closing my eyes and imagining little smooth beans being shifted from one imaginary pile to the next took enough concentration to force out whatever else was vying for my attention, without being so consuming as to keep me awake. That being said, I imagine other people have much better suggestions.

[grins] Sounds good, but it's the sort of thing I've tried lots of times before. My mind just won't be corralled that way. I can barely even meditate, you know -- the brain just says 'Fics/boys, now' and that's it. Sigh.

Thank you though! And I do sleep -- just not enough. :(
