Does anyone out there know of any methods to make yourself fall asleep? I don't have insomnia as such, but even when I'm really tired -- like now -- I find it difficult to get to sleep. I usually have to stay up till anywhere between one and three in the morning before my eyes will consent to the whole shutting biz. As you might have guessed, this will not be conducive to my study/lecture schedule in September. It happened all last year too -- I kept nodding off in the shower in the mornings, or having little naps when particularly soothing lecturers were talking. Usually physiologists. I failed physiology three times. You can see where I'm going with this.

So -- anything? Herbal remedies? Teas? Recs for meditation tapes? (I have two already, but they suck.) Voodoo? Glue? Anything, please, I'm begging here.

But if you're going to say 'start reading Carrie at one in the morning,' don't, because I tried that and it didn't work. Good book though.

ETA: Via one of mousapelli's fics (Track 2: Chemistry) I finally found out that Semisonic sings that song. Don't ever say that fanfic teaches you nothing!

Valerian is very helpful for me. It is the herbal base for valium. Sometimes i have to take 2-3 depending on dosage. It does have a bit of a hangover.

Passionflower is useful if your mind spins when you lie down. It won't make you sleepy, just improves the quality of sleep.

Things like observing the same schedule for a while will help. Go to bed at the same time, even if you are not sleepy, and wake up at the same time (and get up) even if you are hammered. Don't eat refined sugars or preservatives, and don't eat anything after 8 at night. Drink tons of water to keep your system clear and moving so that nothing is recycling bad hormones...

Voodoo also works well for me. Seriosly--I do a lot of shamanic stuff that has helped me more than anything.

Wow, I can't wait till we start pharmacology. I feel very uninformed about all these -- compounds? drugs? thingies? :D

That's a good idea -- about the routine -- and it would probably work if it weren't for the fact that my internet hours are limited to late at night. I can't see my mother buying my routine as a reason for spending hours online during peak time. Unfortunately ... But eating after eight sounds like something I could not do; same with the water. Thanks!

Total aside--where in Ireland do you live? I hope we can go back there soon. I miss it so much.
